Zoya Langsdorf

My family and I traveled to Israel in the past two weeks. We decided we needed an experienced and capable tour guide. Boy, were we ever lucky, lucky, lucky to find Levi. We are forever grateful to a friend of mine who has recommended hiring Levi.
Even though we had an idea which places we want to visit, Levi knew the right places to go, how to get there, how to navigate crowds and how to cut lines, as he is allowed to do quite often as a certified tour guide.
He was also able to direct us to places to visit on our un-guided days and how best to visit them by ourselves in our spare time. He is talented, knowledgeable, well-educated and able to answer even the weirdest of the questions we had, and we had many.
But most of all--and this is really important--Levi is a kind, warm, sensitive person who made each person in our party (including our 10 years old son who said that he will miss Levi the most) feel special and cared for.
By the end of our trip, we each firmly believe that Levi is our friend for life. He is as good a guide as you will ever find. His time is worth every single penny and will likely be the smartest investment you make in planning your trip. That was certainly the case with us.
Levi, we miss you!

With great affection, Len, Zoya and your buddy Matthew

I have already been several times to Israel, and Levi was the best tour guide of all, so far. His attitude and the way presenting the material made it fascinating. He kept our group just amazed.

Levi has also presented “touchy” political issues in such an equilibrated manner, that it did not reveal any personal agenda or bias that we could expect from an “average” Israeli, those who usually pushing their ideas forward

If TripAdvisor had a 6 star category then I think that MaxiBaltTours would easily meet that standard.

From the very start on meeting Alexei in the morning and our guide Diana the service was exemplary. We had a simply fantastic 2 days in their company and it is difficult to know how we could have fitted more in. Diana was knowledgeable friendly and happy to amend the day to accommodate any of the groups needs. Our group tour consisted of 10 people from 3 different families, with a variety of interests but we found something for everyone. We arrived in St Petersburg on Brilliance of the Seas with Royal Carribean and despite the caution in their Royal Carribean's literature the visa-free process through border control was easy with just a passport, sea pass card (from the ship) and our MaxiBaltTours tour ticket. There was absolutely no problems - this had been our one concern prior to arrival but it absolutely wasn't an issue.

Being in a small group was the best, as in busy museums such as the Hermitage we could use our "sneaking skills" as Diana put it to by pass any queues and maximise our use of the time available. During the two days we had lunch at two local restaurants (included in the tour price) where the service and welcome was on a par with Alexei and Diana's. Gift shopping whilst not imperative was made easier and cheaper by their knowledge of good shops off the beaten track where prices were much lower than the peak tourist areas, but quality was fantastic.

The tour we had included the Hermitage, Yusopov's palace, Catherines palace (inc the amber room), the fountains at Peterhof, Peter and Paul's Fortress and Cathedral, a hydrofoil trip, a metro trip, plus my personal highlight "The Church of the Spilled Blood" which is an iconic building. Diana was always on the lookout for things to make our visit even more memorable - for example we had a short stop at one of the summer houses at Catherines Palace to listen to a 6 man choir sing a traditional Russian folk song which was unbelievably good and would have been missed by all the larger group tours.

Getting visa at BBK (Thailand)
One of the few visas that we needed to apply for and has actually been more of a formal process was the Vietnam visa. We opted to get our visa while in Bangkok at the Vietnam Embassy. I can’t say I would do that again. First you have to find the embassy, which isn’t too hard if you know your way around Bangkok, which we do, but there aren’t a lot of signs to help you when you get close. Next you have to pay and give them your passport for a few days (I hate not having my passport). Finally, if you are lucky you will get your passport back on time, with a nice big full page Vietnam sticker visa in your passport.

We weren’t one of the lucky few. After a few stops back to check on the progress on this rather routine operation we got our passports back, only to find the wrong dates printed on our passports. Our Vietnam visa was due to expire a day before we were set to land in Ho Chi Minh City. After pointing out to the friendly embassy attendant that he had gotten our dates wrong by a whole month, he whips around grabs a pen and crosses out the printed, and very formal looking, dates and writes over them with the same pen. Before we had a chance to scream ‘noooooo’ he was done. Our rather expensive visas was now scribbled on. He hands them back and points to his edit and says in rather rough English “It ok, I put two stamp. Two stamp OK, one stamp no OK.” Just then another older expat from behind us says “It’s OK they mess the dates up all the time, if it has two stamps where he wrote you should be OK.”
We ended up getting into Vietnam without too much of an issue, but we wasted more than a whole day in Bangkok dealing with it. Not to mention trying to explain this to our airline attendant in the Philippines that yes our visa was actually good, even though they had the dates scribbled out. The whole “Two stamp OK” thing was hard to explain to her before she actually let us on the plane. Airlines will not allow you on the plane to another country without proof that you have proper documentation, because if you don’t returning you to where you came from is their responsibility.

The rooms, hotel and the food are great. It is overall a great experience when staying at this hotel. The hotel does not offer free parking which is not unusual for a big city like San Diego. So find your own parking and avoid paying the valet fee, unless you like the convenience of valet.
